Ambulatory Services


The Piedmont Equine Practice provides consistent, reliable care every day of the year to all types of horses. Ambulatory service is available in the following counties: Loudoun, Fauquier, Clarke, Rappahannock, Prince William, Warren, Fairfax, Culpeper and Frederick.


Emergency Services

A team of veterinarians is on call for urgent questions, farm calls, intensive care, and surgery around the clock including holidays and weekends. Through constant communication and careful scheduling, the veterinarians and staff at Piedmont Equine strive to ensure that every emergency is addressed in a timely and thorough manner.


Preventative Medicine

  • Vaccines and Deworming administered according to the latest research on disease pathology and parasite resistance. Schedules are adjusted to meet the needs of the individual horse.
     
  • Routine Field Surgery such as castrations, laceration repair, and skin tumor removal.
     
  • Dentistry performed by licensed equine veterinarian, Dr. Dave Johnson
  • Drs. Anikis, Bowman, Davis and Theiss also do dentistry


Lameness Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services

Lameness and Prepurchase Exams can be performed on the farm in most situations. Digital radiography and ultrasonography can be scheduled in advance for a farm call when needed.

Therapeutic Services available on the farm include:

  • High Energy Focused Shockwave Therapy
  • Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Protein (IRAP)
  • Acupuncture
  • Chiropractic
  • Mesotherapy


Reproductive Health Care


The Piedmont Equine Practice offers a full range of services to manage mares for live breeding and artificial insemination. Mares can be bred with fresh chilled semen or frozen semen in the hospital or on the farm. Reproductive ultrasonography and semen evaluation are also available.
